The new B.1.1529 Omicron variant of Corona virus was found in South Africa. It found the highly mutated version of Corona Virus till now. World Health Organization (WHO) named it Omicron. The advisory panel of SARS-CoV-2 virus evaluation continues monitoring the development of this Variant. They also evaluating that whether the nature of the virus will change of any specific Mutation or combination of mutations. WHO said the Omicron Virus VOC (Variant of concerns) that means it is more deadly.

Omicron Corona Virus Variant started in South Africa and now spreading in more countries. The whole world and Indian Government are too worried about this new Omicron Variant. The national center for disease control informed the health ministry that Omicron Variant found in these countries i.e Botswana(4 Cases), South Africa (22 Cases), and Hong Kong (2 Cases). Many countries stopped the International flights especially from South Africa and increased COVID19 testing and Quarantine to stop the spread of the Omicron Variant of Corona Virus.

Though there are no cases of the Omicron Corona Variant detected in India still, Indian Government and State Government started taking necessary measures to stop its spread. Indian Government issued the new guidelines for the people coming from other countries that will be effective from 1st December. The Covid19 testing of the people coming from countries where the chances of Omicron variant is high will be done at the Airport. If the report came negative they have to quarantine for 7 days at home and need to go for the COVID19 test again on the 8th day.

The central government has prepared a list of 12 countries, where the risk of new variants is high. These include all countries of Europe including UK, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel are included. Passengers coming from countries other than these are allowed to come out from the Airport. They have to take care of themself at least for 14 days.

Why Corona Virus Omicron Variant is More Risky?

As per the reports it is found that Omicron Variant has many mutations. The experts of the Centre for epidemic response and innovation in South Africa found the Omicron mutant which is unlikely very much different from other mutations. Till now 50 mutations are found and more than 30 on the spike protein. So Omicron variant could be riskier because there are chances that vaccines would not be effective on it.

Will Corona Virus Vaccines work on Omicron Variant?

People are worried about Omicron Variant in India because it is hard to say that whether Indian Vaccines like Covidshield and Covaxin will work on it or not. It is believed that this new variant is capable of defeating the corona vaccine as well. Many scientists have also warned that If new variants of Corona come, then the vaccine will also have to be updated in the same way. Now that Omicron has come to the fore, the work on its vaccine has also intensified.

American company Novavax said that it has started work on the vaccine to target the new variant. The company also said that in the next few weeks it will be ready for testing and manufacturing. According to the company, it is making a spike protein that will increase immunity against the new variant B.1.1529.

How to Stay Safe from Corona Virus Omicron Variant:

There are no special measures for Omicron Variant, people have to follow all COVID19 guidelines issues earlier. To stay safe from Omicron Variant follows these Rules:

• Get vaccinated as soon as it’s your turn and follow local guidance on vaccination.
• Keep physical distance of at least 1 metre from others, even if they don’t appear to be sick. Avoid crowds and close contact.
• Wear a properly fitted mask when physical distancing is not possible and in poorly ventilated settings.
• Clean your hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of used tissues immediately and clean hands regularly. 
• If you develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, self-isolate until you recover.
